Meet Ann Lindberg
I had just retired at 70 from my 45-year career as a pediatric occupational therapist when I heard about Immersion and was intrigued because I had been a fine art major until my junior year in college. Here was an opportunity to stimulate my old art brain. I had never heard of surface pattern design, Adobe Illustrator, or any of the technology associated with art. It sounded like it was up my alley, so I signed up.
I was intimidated by my lack of knowledge of all of the technology involved. We didn't even have computers in the 70s when I was in college. But I was determined and stuck with it. I've always loved fabric and patterns, and was just fascinated with the idea of being able to make patterns to put on fabric of my own.
Fortunately, the course was organized in such a user-friendly way with sufficient support throughout that I was able to gradually master the tools and techniques. It was fun, and I found myself eagerly looking forward to the new modules and lessons. The bonus courses were a thrill as well. I can make patterns with motifs with ease in Illustrator. I have gone on to learn Photoshop and Procreate and have posted many patterns on Spoonflower. I opened a shop on Etsy and will be expanding to a second shop with home goods such as tea towels, table cloths, pot holders, etc. Within the next 6 months, I will be contacting companies for licensing opportunities.
