Meet Anna McClure

When I graduated with my degree in graphic design in December 2021, I felt completely lost. I had been working in a design and print shop and absolutely hated it. The environment was fast-paced and draining, and I realized quickly that I didn’t want to work for anyone else — especially not in a space that made creativity feel competitive and cut throat.

Two weeks after graduating, I got married. I remember sitting with my husband one evening, doodling patterns on a scrap piece of paper, when he said, “You’re happiest when you’re creating patterns.” He was right, but at the time, I didn’t even know surface pattern design was a thing. I laughed and said, “Yeah, but what am I supposed to do with that?”

Not long after, an ad for Immersion came across my Instagram feed, and it felt like the answer to a question I hadn’t known how to ask. I was newly married, fresh out of school, and had just quit my job, so the cost made me hesitate, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it. When I finally brought it up to my husband, he encouraged me to take the leap, and I’m so glad I did.

Taking Immersion completely changed how I see myself as an artist. It gave me not just skills, but confidence. The belief that there’s room for me in the art world, even if I don’t fit the mold. It replaced that sense of competition I’d felt in design school and the industry with community, creativity, and genuine support. I met incredible artists and friends who truly cheer one another on.

Since then, I’ve created my own products, started building an online membership community for women, and found a rhythm in my creative work that feels sustainable and fulfilling. Immersion reminded me that art doesn’t have to be about comparison or perfection, but that it can be about joy, connection, and creating from a place of purpose.
