Before I started Immersion, I have never opened the AI app, and never heard of surface pattern design. I imagined that it will be too difficult to learn and I relied on drawing on paper instead. I’ve always wanted to design fabric I want to wear because I’m not a fast fashion person.

I came across Bonnie’s course through reading the Uppercase blog. It seem like the exact thing I’ve been wanting to learn and do!

The main consideration I had was whether I will be able to follow through the course due to time difference in Singapore and that I have a full time job in marketing. And then cost was also a factor. I was also worried about whether What I create is going to be good enough. But I decided to take the plunge because if I don’t do something about it then, I never would and I am really thankful for the decision. I love every bit of Immersion!

Since immersion, I made a couple of friends from my peer group whom I still meet up every month for accountability. AI is a big part of my life now, I just want to keep creating. (Just between you and me, I confess I get distracted at work since I work from home.)

Other than learning AI and the principles of surface design, my two biggest takeaway are: learning to have courage to do things I never dared to do and breaking things down into small manageable tasks. And these can be applied to everything in life. Thank you Bonnie.

Since immersion, I have been working on my collection during pockets of time. Although a bit slow, I think I’m getting there with one collection. I’m still fumbling with scale and colours. But I’m almost there! With this, I’m looking forward to making a small batch of products to sell online :) and then working on another collection for my portfolio.

If you want to learn surface pattern and AI, this is the only course you need! You’ll learn everything you need from a very good teacher. There’s a wonderful community to learn from and keep you going. It was the best present I gave to myself.

I’m going to start my shop, I’m going to start my shop, I’m going to start my shop this year (I really hope I can in between my day job!!)
