Meet Gemma Baiges
I am a Fine Art graduate in Design. I have worked in the fine jewelry industry and later in a design consultancy creating toys and everyday products. During a few of those projects, I had to learn how to make patterns, and my clients loved them. That made me realise it was something I had used in the past and wanted to explore more seriously.
Starting the Immersion course felt scary. I had not taken a course in many years, and I worried I might not be at the right level. But I ended up loving the course. Seeing how many different people and backgrounds were represented helped me feel confident that there was a place for me too.
The best part of Immersion was watching a simple sketch grow into a full collection and then into a mockup. It is such powerful proof that a collection can be successful and cohesive. The skills I gained include understanding how a collection works, seeing nature from a new perspective, recognising patterns everywhere, and learning how licensing and sharing work on social media.
Right now, I am working on completing three collections, sketching prompts, building my website, learning how to post on Instagram and figuring out how to start a print on demand business. It is overwhelming at times, but I try to do one or two things a day.
I am looking forward to finishing these key steps this year and beginning to pitch my work at the start of 2026.
