Meet Heather Cantrill

Before Surface Pattern Design, I was a primary school teacher, but I always felt like something was missing. I needed a more creative path and knew I was meant for something bigger. I wanted to take the Immersion course but the cost worried me and I was scared I’d still feel stuck. In the end, it was completely worth it; it saved me so much time and gave me the clear, step-by-step guidance I needed. After taking Immersion, I gained confidence, found an encouraging community and finally felt like I’d found the missing piece. The best parts were learning Illustrator with videos I could revisit anytime and feeling genuinely supported by Bonnie and the community. I’m now proficient in Illustrator, and since completing Immersion I’ve created my first portfolio and three collections, licensed my work to four companies in my first year and have even been able to quit teaching. I’m excited to keep growing my pattern skills, land more licensing deals and eventually sell my own stationery, cards and gift wrap.
