Meet Lori Jordan
-Before Surface Design, I worked in startups in tech and entertainment, and had a business in the textile/knitting industry. Working in textile and knitting I saw the surface design industry from a distance. I was always intrigued with design for fabric, stationery, and home goods. I have done drawing and illustration for my own enjoyment for years, and wanted to learn how to move it into surface design.
The thing that held me back the most was time. I was working full time at a startup the first time I heard about it, but then in 2021, I had time and knew I was ready to dig in, fully. During and after Immersion, I was brought back to a project I started 3+ years ago around journaling for health issues. With more understanding of Illustrator and surface design, I was ready to pick it up again and started redesigning everything!
So many best parts! Learning, amazing community, ability to share and get feedback, and get better at the craft. I also started to really lean into my personal look and feel.
I've learned my way around illustrator, feel confident in my ability to take a creative idea from my brain to final product, and I'm getting more comfortable being the face of my brand.
Since the Immersion course, I've redesigned Blink Journals from the ground up, I've created the journal and stickers, rebuilt my entire website, had a full branding shoot, and found a manufacturer who did my first run of journals for my store, which is launching in January 2022. I've also started to make contact with amazing people and organizations who I hope to partner with and do work with through Blink Journals.
My next steps are re-launching Blink Journals in 2022, creating a larger suite of products, starting down the path of public speaking as an advocate and breast cancer survivor, and building a business that gives back, is sustainable, and helps people as they navigate their own health issues.
Anyone on the fence, I'd say, "Come on over! - You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!"
