Meet Kathleen Butterfield
Before I started surface pattern design, I was a stay-at-home mother, a caregiver for my combat-disabled husband, and desperate to find a way to have a career. I longed to have my own business, and I was in love with the idea of designing patterns.
I took the Immersion Course in 2020. The best part was the peer group that I was in. It was wonderful to meet regularly with my peers. Taking Immersion helped me strengthen my design skills and my style. After completing Immersion, I took two solid years to practice creating patterns. A second round of Immersion in 2022 really helped me feel confident as a designer. I sell my designs on Spoonflower and Society6. I was also hired by a client to create doll-scale fabric. The doll-collecting community is a wonderful bunch, and I’m thrilled to be designing for people who participate in the hobby.
If you are on the fence about joining the Immersion Course, I want you to know how valuable the experience is. If you already know the basics, you will strengthen your skill set. You will surround yourself with a community of people to cheer you on and help you as you learn. If you dream of designing as your career, this course will get you there.
