I’ve always been an artist and got my degree in Fine Arts as well as my MA in art education. I taught for many years until I started a family and then as I was staying at home with my kids, I began to develop my skills in fine arts such as acrylic painting, drawing, and watercolor colored pencil.

A few years ago when all of my kids were finally in school at the same time, I started an Etsy shop and began taking on commissions for pet portraits, house portraits, and illustrations. I also began attending craft shows on a regular basis. I enjoyed making art but I didn't enjoy how labor-intensive and slow this process was for scaling my business. I could only make so many art pieces at a time and found myself limited in being able to scale my art easily.

When I took Immersion I was introduced to the BIG world of surface pattern design which has so many different directions and ways to use your art. It felt like so many opportunities were suddenly available to me and I figured out that with surface pattern design, I could do a variety of things with these new skills.

I would say learning illustrator was the best thing I got out of this class. It has helped me in my small business the most. But I also think that the people I have met along this journey have taught me so much more. I've met so many lovely and creative people and that alone is reason enough for me to have taken this class.
